Mod Post readme: updates to the subreddit

In light of recent events, there's been a spike in the number people who have suddenly woken up from their slumber to realize that Google isn't as benevolent as they thought. So a degoogle-rush to this sub has started.

[surprised pikachu]

First of all, this is not a political subreddit. This is a technical subreddit to assist users in ~delousing~ removing Google from their devices.

You have opinions? Take them elsewhere.

News pertinent to Google and/or it's ancillary services/products will be allowed.

New rules will be added, old will be adjusted:

  1. No editorialization of submitted (news) articles.
  2. All political discussions will be removed.
  3. New posts will be checked for duplication, if a duplicate exists. It will be removed. (With guidance to the submitter to search the sub)

Info in the sidebar & wiki is being updated (thanks to everyone who helped!)

Last but not least, we'd like to welcome u/greenlit_hightower to the moderation team. Their knowledge and patient participation in this sub is a welcome addition. 🫡

Also a big thank you to everyone for helping this community to thrive. :)

Mod Post Does my phone have a DeGoogled rom? Megathread

In an effort to remove the countless low effort "Is there a DeGoogled rom for my phone?" questions we are requiring anyone creating those types of threads to post here with a reply instead of creating a post. Any posts going forward asking this question will be removed.

The reason we specified above "low effort" is because majority of the posts do not include what OP has researched, or tested, or tried (Thank you to those whom have included such information). Thus in order to help others answer your question, it is strongly encouraged to include the following: Failure to include these may result in you not getting your question answered. Experienced users can only help those DeGoogling if they have the proper information.

1) Your phone: Manufacturer, Model, Version or production details

2) What ROMs did you research?

3) Which ROMs did you install or attempt to install?

4) What problems have you encountered during the install?

5) What problems have you encountered after the install?

6) Why was the previous ROM insufficient to your needs? (If it was a DeGoogled ROM)

PS: Experienced DeGooglers, If you have any suggestions or modifications you believe should be made to this post guide, please reply here. Your experience is valuable and what keeps this sub alive :)

Question FUTO keyboard getting better? 🤔

Upvotes

For those of you using FUTO keyboard, have you noticed the swiping getting better? It seems like it has been making fewer mistakes the last couple of weeks and isn't the yard sale it used to be. It is also possible that the keyboard has just trained me to be more precise in my swiping. Just wondering what others' experiences have been.

Question I know it's not Google, but I'm concerned about Meta. I'm in the process of selling my house and need marketplace to get rid of all my stuff. Is there a way to safely use Facebook/messenger on my phone? It's the only way to keep up with sales. Thanks!

Question Mailbox.org - what phone app to use?

It’s a shame it doesn’t have its own app.

For those who use Mailbox.org and want to access it on your phone, what app do you use to access it?

I’m not updating to android 16 and you shouldn’t either

The reason why I am saying this is because on march 1st 2026 Google is releasing a security patch update and or Releasing Android developer verification on that day as well as destroying backround apps if you have an equalizer running in the background or a music app ! Hard to say but if your not registered with google aka pay 25 dollars your audio app will vanish the second you close out of the app the worst thing? If you pay 25 dollars you can keep the app running in the backround aka bypass the 2 hr limit! This is insane it’s Google literally Killing Android OS that’s why you should either Get a phone that doesn’t receive Android 16 or use Custom Rom none of my devices run Android 16 which is Great! As I call (Android 15) (The final OS update of freedom)

Apple Sheds the Mask

Well we kinda all knew that Apple's Trust Us Bro approach to privacy wasn't exactly what they let people believe it was, but now they're just going to quit pretending I guess:

Help Needed Life360 alternatives

Upvotes

Good day all. I'm working on starting my degoogle journey and have a query regarding thoughts on options.

One thing is my wife loves life360 to be able to check in on where each other are when we are out and such. I know any service that you give location data to is a security/privacy risk but I saw a couple options and want people's thoughts on them or other options: zood and paralino

Help Needed Linkedin: How to request data and account deletion according to GDPR(European Privacy Law) without Face Scan

All sorts of dark patterns are used to keep users from deleting their data and account.

Is there a way to request data and accounting deletion without providing extensive personal data beyond what is needed to close the account?

I start thinking of suing them...

Dear Google drive you unoptimized bum

Hey Google drive, I admire that that when I’m uploading a large folder you know it’s best to break it down to individual files so you can upload more efficiently by splitting the workload among all the files. The issue is, YOU WONT UPLOAD MORE THAN 10 FILES AT A TIME DESPITE BREAKING THE FOLDER DOWN TO 30,000 FILES!

That’s like me taking a large line of people where one person goes at a time, and spending a lot of time and resources splitting them into 100 different lines THEN STILL ONLY LETTING 1 PERSON GO AT A TIME.

Question My Degoogling and next steps?

I have a samsung S21 FE that i ran the android debloater on a while ago but I am looking on next steps of degoogling

Calendar options with custom color

Post image
3 Upvotes

Im looking for a google calendar alternative that gave me the option to color code freely, i mean put my own hex color codes into events instead of just the color already offered by the app.It would be great if it could sync across devices as well.

Any ways it might seem superficial but right now thats the feature that matters the most for me when chosing a calendar is that one. Ive started recently the de googling process and so far was able to switch emails, map, browser, search engine, but i am still having difficulties with calendar, photos and youtube. I even decided to put linux in my computer for better security, since i was stuck with w11. Anyways please help me if u can, the calendar should run on android, and maybe on linux as well☺️

Question Follow up

So last week I posted a question about migrating from a shared iPhone and Android account. We currently use Google for calendar, photos, email, and we pay for the 100gb plan which let's us use the 100gb across all of those platforms. Is there an environment like Google that would allow us to purchase additional storage and use that for email and photos combined? Proton is the only one I could think that would have all of these features and would be easy to migrate to from our current setup

I was looking at moving to Ente Photos but I'd have to pay extra for their storage plus extra for our email provider storage as well. Would Proton even allow us to do this? Their Proton plus plan is 200gb which is 4x what we currently need for photos and email combined. But I don't know if this plan would work across all Proton platforms or if I need an upgraded plan to get the extra Proton apps. And the 3tb family plan is just insane for that level of storage and for the cost as well

What's a good engine + browser to avoid forced AI results

After trying to put many extensions on my computer putting a bunch parameters on CSE on my iphone for safari + google I've just not been able to avoid results on my computer it seemed to have worked but it seems like even with my extensions AI results have been cracking more and on my iphone? It's worse those parameters seem to only work half of the time.

My last straw was today I tried install more anti AI extensions but AI results kept popping up, it was long time coming. So for my iphone and computer what's a good engine + browser I don't care if it has toggleable AI as long as I can turn it off and if I can have a lot of the same extensions I have on chrome for youtube.

Greetings degoogle community! New to this and eager to get going. So I don't overload myself with countless changes, what is the first change I should do? My minimum goal is to ensure I stick to it for 6 weeks until moving unto the next (read this in a book somewhere on changing habits).
